Dr. Robert Braile has done just about everything you can do in chiropractic. He has been a successful chiropractor running a large volume practice in Florida for 17 years. He has been a chiropractic teacher and administrator. He was involved in politics in both Georgia and Florida having served as the Vice President of the Florida Chiropractic Society. And he was involved nationally having served two terms as President of the International Chiropractors Association followed by two terms as Board Chairman. “Dr. Bob”, as most people know him, is now in active practice in Marietta, Georgia. It is in this practice that he focuses on education. “I have always had a passion for sending out newsletters to patients in my practices. I used to write and mail one out every month for years in Florida. It became a very expensive and time-consuming process. When I first opened a practice in Georgia, I decided to try something different.” What he did was to send a newsletter out to his patients using email. So in a few days time, he gathered email addresses, wrote a newsletter and mailed them out to around 100 patients whom he had gotten email addresses from. “To my surprise I got email responses from my patients! I thought this was cool. Some even told me they had forwarded the newsletter on to friends and relatives. For years previously I had sent out thousands of paper newsletters and never did I get the kind of great response like I did from just the few emails I sent after that first issue.” With the type of response he got from this first newsletter, he decided to send out another edition and the response was even better. Then, as he describes it, he had an innate feeling. “I was walking through my office looking at the wall where I had taped a printed copy of the last email newsletter and the hair stood up on my arm. Suddenly it occurred to me that other chiropractors would want this and either don't know how, or don't have the time to do it. I then walked over to my reception desk and asked my wife for a pen and paper. I then proceeded to write down the words Now You Know and the basis for the email newsletter service. I then put the paper in my pocket to keep and act on.” At the time, Dr. Braile was the president of the Intrnational Chiropractors Association, a teacher, and was in practice, which accounted for a considerable chunk of his time. In spite of this, he felt that this project could not wait. So in the summer of 1998, with the help of a dear chiropractic friend, he launched the opening of the new educational company, Now You Know Inc. Very quickly, doctors started signing up for this new service. And just as quickly one of the first questions from doctors was, “Do you do websites?” The answer was a resounding, “Eh yes, soon!” So he quickly enlisted the additional resources of a former Sprint executive to help with the technology considerations. From this modest beginning, Now You Know internet educational services were born. The second service NYK started was Chiropractic Websites. Again, Dr. Braile had certain concepts in mind, “I wanted doctors to have a web site they could be proud of. I wanted them to have information available to them that they could not get anywhere else. And, most of all, I wanted it to really work for them as both an educational and practice building tool. For this reason, we tried every feature we added to our web site service on my own clinic website first.” Dr. Braile comments, “This is personal to me. This is my profession. I'm not just providing a service to my fellow chiropractors. I see what I'm doing as spreading the truth of chiropractic to more people that I ever could before. The world is a big place, and the people in it need what we have. They need chiropractic!”
